Jacques Picard is a small family owned Champagne house now run by the third generation of the family. The vines are located in the regions of Berru and the ‘Montagne de Riems’ where the soils are mostly hard clay and the area of Montbre which is silicate. These provide the ideal combination of nutrients together with ‘flintyness’ and other characteristics of the terroir.
Made from Chardonnay 60%, Pinot Meunier 35% and Pinot Noir 5%, this fine non-vintage Champagne includes 30% reserve wines in the blend (wines from previous vintages). These provide additional depth of flavour and a maturity of style which continues the tradition that has always been followed by the family.
The Champagne has a attractive golden yellow colour with a white mousse while the bubbles are fine and form a constant rope. The nose is fine and subtle with floral and fruit aromas of medium intensity and shows good grapey character and tones of toast and butter. The palate is extremely fresh with great finesse and also has toasted notes. There is no sense of ‘aggression’ or greenness.
Drinking well now and will mature for a further 2 or 3 years.
